Weekend holding in forex is often reduced to a simple warning: avoid the currency pairs that “gap the most.” That sounds useful, but it creates false precision. There is no permanent 2026 ranking in which one pair is guaranteed to produce the largest Friday-to-Sunday gap. Weekend gaps are event-driven. The pair most exposed to an election, emergency policy announcement, geopolitical shock, commodity move, or country-specific headline can become the most dangerous pair on that particular weekend even if it is normally one of the deepest markets in the world.
A better weekend strategy starts with liquidity, event exposure and account math. Deeply traded pairs such as EUR/USD and USD/JPY usually benefit from broad participation, but deep liquidity does not eliminate discontinuous repricing when the market is closed. Less heavily traded crosses or emerging-market pairs can bring wider normal spreads, more uneven liquidity, different trading hours and sharper execution risk, but turnover alone cannot tell you the exact next opening gap. The latest BIS Triennial Survey gives a useful 2026 baseline. Final 2025 survey material was released in June 2026. The US dollar remained on one side of 89.2% of global FX trades, the euro accounted for 28.9%, the Japanese yen 16.8%, sterling 10.2%, the renminbi 8.5% and the Swiss franc 6.4%. Overall OTC FX turnover averaged roughly $9.5 trillion per day in April 2025. Those figures tell us where global activity is concentrated. They do not measure weekend gaps directly, but they help traders distinguish heavily traded markets from thinner ones.
BIS research on April 2025 FX liquidity also adds an important warning against simplistic liquidity claims. During the volatile April 2025 period, FX volatility rose but bid-ask liquidity remained broadly resilient across many segments. That means a trader should not say that volatility automatically makes liquidity disappear or that a lower-turnover currency must always gap more. Liquidity is dynamic. Weekend closures add a separate discontinuity because the next tradable price can incorporate information accumulated while normal trading was unavailable.

Quick answer: There is no reliable universal ranking of the currency pair that gaps most every weekend. Major pairs normally trade with deeper global participation, while thinner crosses and some emerging-market pairs can carry wider spreads and less consistent liquidity. But the largest weekend risk often comes from the currency directly exposed to the weekend’s event. Before Friday close, rank each open pair by catalyst risk, liquidity, spread history, trading hours, correlation and the cash loss a realistic gap would create. A weekend gap is the difference between the last meaningful Friday trading area and the first executable prices when the market reopens. The broker or prop-platform feed can change the measured opening price too because decentralized FX does not have one single global opening print. A ranking without a stated period, price source and gap definition is weaker than it looks.
Prop traders should therefore use rankings only as rough research prompts. The decision must return to the live account: what is open, which currencies are exposed to known weekend events, how much room remains before daily or maximum drawdown, and how much slippage can occur if the Sunday open skips the Friday stop. A pair that is statistically quiet can still be unacceptable when the account has only a small safety buffer.
Five variables matter. First is event sensitivity: is one side of the pair directly exposed to an election, policy decision, fiscal announcement, conflict or commodity shock? Second is market depth: how broad is participation in the pair under normal conditions? Third is reopening liquidity: are quotes likely to be sparse or spreads unusually wide when the prop platform resumes trading? Fourth is portfolio concentration: does another open trade express the same currency view? Fifth is account sensitivity: how many dollars does each pip of adverse movement remove from equity?
These variables interact. A highly liquid pair can still be the weekend’s most dangerous trade when a major event directly targets one of its currencies. A thinner pair can be manageable when no catalyst exists and the position is tiny. A normally modest gap can become unacceptable if three correlated trades move together. Weekend risk is therefore conditional, not a permanent property stamped onto a ticker.
Create a Friday score instead of a permanent ranking. Give each pair a simple low, medium or high label for event risk, liquidity risk, spread risk, correlation and account impact. The pair with several high scores is a stronger candidate for reduction or closure even if an internet article claims another pair “gaps more.” This makes the process responsive to the actual week.
A 50-pip gap is not the same account risk on every pair or position size. Pip value depends on contract size, quote currency and account currency. One trader can lose $100 from the move while another loses $2,000. In a prop account, the relevant problem is not whether the chart produced a dramatic-looking gap. It is whether the cash change threatens the daily or maximum drawdown rule.
Convert every stress gap into account currency. If a pair has historically produced wider gaps but the trader holds only a very small position, it may contribute less account risk than a major pair held at five times the exposure. This is another reason a universal “avoid these pairs” list can mislead. The market characteristic and the position size must be combined.
Use the remaining drawdown buffer as the denominator. A $700 stressed loss may be modest on an account with $6,000 of safe room and excessive on an account with $900 left before the personal stop. Weekend pair selection should be account-aware from the beginning.

The BIS Triennial Survey is the broadest global snapshot of OTC foreign-exchange activity. In the 2025 survey, the US dollar remained dominant, appearing on one side of 89.2% of trades. Because two currencies appear in each FX transaction, the currency shares add to 200% rather than 100%.
At the pair level, USD/EUR and USD/JPY remained enormous markets. USD/CNY had grown enough to exceed USD/GBP in the 2025 survey, an important reminder that old internet lists can become outdated. The data help identify where broad institutional activity is concentrated and where a pair may have more market-making depth under normal conditions.
For weekend planning, higher turnover is generally a favorable liquidity characteristic, but it should be used as context rather than an execution guarantee. BIS turnover is an average over the survey period. A Sunday open is a specific moment with a different participant mix and a backlog of information. The pair can therefore reopen discontinuously even if its average daily turnover is enormous.
Liquidity can help the market absorb normal trading flow, but it cannot create Friday prices after the market has closed. If a major event changes the expected value of a currency on Saturday, participants can return Sunday unwilling to trade near Friday’s level. The first executable quotes can therefore appear much higher or lower. This is price discovery, not necessarily a liquidity failure.
The distinction matters for EUR/USD and USD/JPY. Both are among the world’s deepest currency pairs, yet each can gap when a major euro-area, U.S. or Japanese event occurs while ordinary FX trading is unavailable. A trader who says “EUR/USD is liquid, so my stop is safe” is mixing normal-market liquidity with closed-market execution. A standard stop still needs a tradable quote after the trigger.

The trader who records the prop platform’s own spreads and gaps builds a more relevant dataset than the trader who repeats a generic liquidity ranking from years ago.

EUR/USD can react to U.S. fiscal or political developments, euro-area elections, European policy news or an unexpected geopolitical escalation. The scale of global trading does not prevent the new opening price from being different from Friday’s close when the underlying information set has changed.
For a prop trader, the advantage of major pairs is that the risk is often easier to measure. Historical spreads, tick data and weekend gaps are more available. The trader can build a larger sample and can usually see clearer normal-versus-stressed behavior. That makes stress testing more credible, but it does not justify oversized positions.
These are also major or heavily traded USD pairs, but each has additional drivers. Sterling can react strongly to UK political and fiscal headlines. CHF can respond to safe-haven flows and Swiss policy. AUD can be sensitive to China-related developments and global risk appetite. CAD can react to oil and North American developments. The U.S. side adds a second set of weekend catalysts to every pair.
Instead of one “major-pair” risk assumption, maintain separate pair histories. Compare median weekend gap, upper-percentile gap, spread at first quote, time until spread normalization and the frequency of large event-driven outliers. A major pair with a direct weekend event deserves a higher stress scenario than a different major pair with no relevant catalyst.
Pair choice should also consider correlation. Holding EUR/USD, GBP/USD and AUD/USD together is not three independent USD risks. A dollar-positive weekend shock can affect all three. The combined cash loss can be much larger than the trader expects from looking at each chart separately.
Avoid or reduce it when the weekend contains a known high-impact catalyst directly tied to one side, when current volatility is already elevated, when Friday spreads are abnormal, when the position is near the account’s drawdown tolerance, or when other trades duplicate the same currency exposure. Deep liquidity should lower one component of the risk score, not erase the other components.
Suppose EUR/USD has a moderate historical gap profile but a major euro-area election is scheduled for Sunday. Meanwhile an AUD/NZD position has no event exposure and is very small. A static internet ranking may label the cross riskier because it is less liquid. The live Friday analysis can still identify EUR/USD as the more dangerous account position because the catalyst is specific and the exposure is larger.
The decision is especially important near a prop-firm payout or profit target. Giving back a large part of a strong week through a major-pair gap can have more account-level cost than the expected additional reward from holding. Profit status changes the account math even when the currency pair is the same.

JPY crosses can respond quickly when global risk sentiment changes because the yen often participates in broad funding and safe-haven dynamics, while the other side of the cross can carry its own cyclical or risk-sensitive exposure. A pair such as GBP/JPY or AUD/JPY therefore combines two distinct drivers. That can produce larger percentage moves than a quieter major pair during certain risk-off episodes.
But the wording “JPY pairs always gap most” would still be inaccurate. The yen’s response varies with interest-rate expectations, Bank of Japan policy, positioning, intervention risk and the nature of the weekend event. Sometimes the market can reopen with limited movement. Other times a shock changes global risk pricing sharply. The correct treatment is elevated conditional risk, not a permanent rank.
Use pair-specific cash stress rather than a blanket ban. For GBP/JPY, model a sterling-specific shock, a yen-strengthening risk-off shock and a combined shock. For AUD/JPY, include China or commodity-sensitive scenarios. For EUR/JPY, consider European political or policy risk. The cross structure is valuable because it forces the trader to think about both currencies.
Official intervention is a special risk because it can create rapid repricing and because the exact timing can be difficult for retail traders to anticipate. Even when no intervention occurs, official comments or changing expectations about policy can affect the market. A trader holding a large USD/JPY position into a weekend of heightened intervention discussion should therefore use a harsher stress test than during an ordinary week.
Do not attempt to forecast the exact intervention level from headlines alone. Instead, ask what a sharp multi-standard-deviation yen move would do to the account if the stop fills beyond its Friday trigger. Translate that move into dollars and compare it with remaining daily and maximum drawdown. If the account fails the stress test, the position size is wrong regardless of the trader’s opinion about whether officials will act.
The same discipline applies around Bank of Japan policy periods. A weekend between major communication events can still contain commentary or political developments that alter expectations. The trader should not rely on “the meeting is next week” as proof that weekend policy risk is zero.
Crosses can combine the volatility of both non-USD currencies. GBP/JPY can react to UK-specific news and yen-specific news at the same time. AUD/JPY can express global risk sentiment through both sides: AUD can weaken when growth or China concerns rise while JPY can strengthen under a risk-off move. The effects can reinforce each other.
This does not mean the cross must gap more on every weekend. It means the stress model should recognize the possibility of two reinforcing drivers. Position size should be based on the pair’s own historical distribution, not on the stop distance normally used for EUR/USD. A 30-pip stop that feels ordinary on one pair can sit inside normal noise on another.
For prop-firm traders, JPY crosses are a good example of why “same percentage risk at the stop” is not always same weekend risk. If the cross has more extreme opening discontinuities, the actual loss can exceed the Friday stop by a larger amount. The personal weekend risk limit may therefore require smaller nominal risk than the normal weekday plan.

The issue is not that GBP is an illiquid currency. BIS data still place sterling among the world’s most traded currencies. The issue is that political and policy repricing can happen while ordinary FX trading is unavailable, leaving the Sunday market to discover a new price.
GBP/USD combines UK and U.S. event risk. EUR/GBP is more regionally concentrated and can react to relative UK-versus-European developments. GBP/JPY can add global risk sentiment and yen dynamics. That means a trader should not classify all sterling pairs with one stress number. The same UK headline can create different outcomes depending on what the other currency is doing.
A useful Friday routine is to identify whether the weekend includes UK political votes, major fiscal announcements, party conferences, negotiations, elections, or unusually important policy commentary. If yes, increase the event-risk score on every GBP position. Then check whether the portfolio contains multiple sterling exposures that would all move together if the surprise is large.
No. GBP/JPY often has a reputation for larger intraday ranges and can combine sterling and yen drivers, but a universal weekend ranking would still be misleading. A weekend dominated by U.S. news can make GBP/USD the more direct exposure. A global risk-off shock can make GBP/JPY more sensitive. A UK-only political event can affect both, but the second currency determines how the shock is transmitted.
Compare them using account-currency stress. If GBP/USD has double the position size, its cash risk can exceed a smaller GBP/JPY trade even when GBP/JPY has a larger expected gap range. If both are open in the same direction on sterling, treat them as one portfolio bet for drawdown planning.
The goal is not to identify the scariest chart. The goal is to identify the trade most capable of damaging the account if the event is unfavorable. That requires event sensitivity, position size and remaining drawdown in the same calculation.
Do not let the fact that the trade is profitable erase the weekend risk. A large floating gain can disappear if the pair gaps through the adjusted stop. If the account uses trailing drawdown, the Friday equity high may also have changed the relevant safety floor. The trader should compare the remaining expected reward with the amount of profit and drawdown buffer being exposed to the weekend.
Options include full closure, partial profit-taking, reducing size while keeping the original technical stop, or holding the full position if the tested strategy and account buffer support it. Moving the stop closer simply to “protect profit” can create false confidence because a closed-market gap can still skip the stop. Size reduction is the more direct way to reduce the cash sensitivity of the weekend position.
Record the decision before the market closes. Monday hindsight should not rewrite whether the Friday choice was rational. A good process can close a trade that later gaps favorably, and a bad process can hold a trade that happens to win. Prop-firm survival depends on the process across many weekends.

AUD and NZD are often sensitive to global growth expectations, Asia-Pacific developments and changes in China-related sentiment because of the region’s economic links. That does not mean every Chinese headline produces a predictable currency move, but it gives traders another source of weekend event risk beyond domestic Australian or New Zealand news.
AUD/USD can therefore react to U.S. developments, China-related news, commodity sentiment and broad risk appetite. AUD/JPY adds yen risk-off behavior. AUD/NZD removes the U.S. dollar but creates a relative Australia-versus-New Zealand expression. Each pair needs a different weekend scenario. The label “Aussie pair” is not enough.
When a major Chinese policy announcement, economic-policy meeting, geopolitical development or regional event is expected over a weekend, raise the stress level for AUD and sometimes NZD exposures. USD/CAD has substantial global turnover compared with many crosses, yet an oil shock can still create a meaningful opening move. CAD/JPY can combine commodity and risk-off dynamics. EUR/CAD or GBP/CAD can add European or UK political exposure. Again, the second currency matters as much as the CAD label.
If the trader already holds oil or an energy-sensitive index position, CAD exposure can create cross-asset concentration. A weekend energy shock may affect both positions. Use the same method for AUD and CAD. The pair-specific database is more valuable than the stereotype. Then compare spread, position size, technical structure and account cash risk. The pair with the cleaner chart is not necessarily the safer weekend hold if its size is larger or its stop sits close to a gap-prone level. Use a stressed cash-loss number for each candidate.
If both trades express effectively the same CHF view, holding both can add concentration without meaningful diversification. Reducing to one position can simplify margin, spread and drawdown management while preserving the core thesis.

Some emerging-market pairs trade with lower global turnover, wider quoted spreads, fewer active market makers during certain hours and more country-specific policy or political risk. Those characteristics can make Sunday execution less predictable. But the category is broad. It includes currencies with very different market structures, capital controls, offshore markets and institutional participation.
A trader should therefore avoid statements such as “all exotic pairs are illiquid.” The BIS survey shows aggregate emerging-market currency participation is substantial, and several individual currencies have meaningful global turnover. USD/CNY, for example, became one of the world’s most traded currency pairs in the latest survey. Other EME currencies are much smaller. Risk needs to be assigned at the pair level.

A pair can have a functioning institutional market while the retail CFD feed opens later, carries a wider spread or restricts order size. The account’s actual contract specification is therefore as important as global turnover.
Some currencies have distinct onshore and offshore markets or regulatory constraints that affect where and when trading occurs. The offshore renminbi market is a major example of why a simple “emerging-market currency” label can hide a sophisticated global market. Other currencies can be more dependent on local banking hours or specific regional liquidity centers.
A prop platform may quote a CFD derived from one reference or liquidity network rather than give direct access to every underlying venue. That means the trader should not assume institutional trading hours translate perfectly to the platform. Check the exact opening and closing times, whether the symbol is disabled around rollovers, and how pending orders behave when the market is unavailable.
Weekend news can also create a backlog of local information. If an election result or policy announcement arrives before the local market is active, the first offshore or CFD quotes may be especially volatile. Position size should reflect the possibility that the first tradable price is already well beyond Friday’s stop.
First verify that weekend holding is permitted on the exact account. Second save the symbol specification, including leverage, contract size, trading hours and swap. The latest BIS survey makes that label outdated. Renminbi trading has grown materially, with CNY appearing on one side of 8.5% of global FX turnover in April 2025. Pair-level results show USD/CNY at roughly 8.1% of total turnover, enough to move ahead of USD/GBP in the latest survey. That is not a tiny global market.
However, high turnover does not make CNY identical to EUR or JPY. The renminbi has onshore and offshore market structures, policy management and trading conventions that require separate understanding. A prop platform can also quote an instrument whose hours, spreads and reference liquidity differ from the institutional market captured by BIS statistics. Traders should therefore replace the word “illiquid” with a more precise question about the exact product.
Weekend China-related policy news can still matter greatly. A major announcement on economic policy, property support, trade relations or financial regulation can change expectations before the next active session. The correct conclusion is nuanced: USD/CNY is globally significant, but it can carry policy and market-structure risks that deserve pair-specific treatment.
HKD operates within a linked exchange-rate system, so its price dynamics differ from a freely floating major currency. The important risks include liquidity, interest-rate pressures and the operation of the currency-board framework rather than a generic expectation of large free-floating gaps. A trader should understand the regime before interpreting a narrow historical range as proof of zero risk.
INR has meaningful turnover but also its own domestic market structure, policy framework and offshore activity. BIS data put INR at about 1.9% of global FX turnover in the latest survey, far below USD/CNY but still substantial enough that “nobody trades INR” would be false. The prop-platform version can nevertheless have wider spreads and more limited hours than EUR/USD.
For both currencies, check whether the prop firm even offers the instrument and what leverage applies. Some prop firms restrict emerging-market FX or provide lower leverage. A trader cannot use a global liquidity statistic to infer the exact margin and Sunday execution rules of a CFD contract.
Asian currencies can begin active regional price discovery before London and New York are fully engaged. The open trade risks $400 to its weekday technical stop.
The trader does not conclude that the pair is “safe.” Instead, the moderate weekend scenario assumes a gap large enough to create an $800 cash loss after spread, and the severe scenario assumes $1,400. Both remain inside the personal weekend budget. The trade can therefore qualify for the hold bucket if the strategy genuinely intends to carry multi-day positions.
Now change only the account state. Suppose the same trader has only $900 of personal safe room remaining because of losses earlier in the week. The pair, event calendar and chart are identical, but the weekend decision changes. The moderate $800 scenario now consumes nearly the entire buffer. The same EUR/USD position belongs in the reduce or close bucket. Pair risk cannot be separated from account risk.
Worked example 2 — GBP/JPY before a politically sensitive weekend: The trader holds a profitable GBP/JPY swing. The technical stop is 70 pips away, but the weekend contains a major UK political event and global risk sentiment is fragile. The pair also has two reinforcing risk channels: sterling can weaken on UK-specific surprise while the yen can strengthen if the global reaction becomes risk-off.
The trader’s historical database shows that ordinary weekend gaps are often smaller than the technical stop, but event weekends have produced much larger tails. Rather than move the stop to break-even and call the trade protected, the trader halves the position. The cash loss from a severe gap is therefore reduced directly even if the first Sunday quote is beyond the stop.
If Monday opens favorably, the trader will earn less than with the full position. That is the cost of protection. The decision should be judged by whether the reduced size matched the known uncertainty and account constraints, not by whether the favorable outcome makes the reduction look unnecessary in hindsight.
Worked example 3 — three USD positions that look diversified: A trader is long EUR/USD, long GBP/USD and long AUD/USD. Each individual trade has 0.35% planned risk, which appears conservative. The trader considers holding all three because they involve different base currencies. The portfolio map reveals the common factor: all three are materially short the U.S. dollar.
A weekend U.S. shock that strengthens the dollar can push the three positions against the account together. A simple sum of the stressed losses reaches 1.7% after gap and spread assumptions. That is much larger than any individual ticket and may be excessive relative to the remaining prop drawdown. The trader keeps the setup with the strongest technical structure and closes or reduces the other two.
This example shows why “which currency pair gaps most?” can be the wrong question. The account can fail from several ordinary gaps occurring in the same direction. Portfolio concentration sometimes matters more than the standalone tail of any one pair.
Worked example 4 — an emerging-market pair with an attractive swap: A trader wants to hold a lower-turnover currency pair because the overnight carry is positive. Friday’s expected financing credit looks attractive relative to a normal day’s price movement. The trader’s own platform data, however, show wider spreads at the Sunday open and a small sample of large event-driven gaps.
The correct comparison is not positive swap versus zero. It is positive swap versus total weekend return distribution. A modest carry credit cannot compensate for a gap that breaches the account’s daily-loss or maximum-loss rule. The trader should size the position from the adverse tail and treat the financing as a secondary input.
If the minimum lot still creates too much stressed loss, the pair should not be held on that account. A strategy that depends on earning carry must still fit the prop firm’s hard drawdown structure.
Worked example 5 — USD/CNY and outdated “exotic” assumptions: A trader reads an old article calling USD/CNY a minor illiquid pair and decides it must be more dangerous than GBP/USD. Current BIS data contradict the liquidity premise: USD/CNY has become one of the largest global currency pairs by turnover. The old category is no longer useful enough for sizing.
That does not mean the trader should hold USD/CNY without caution. The pair has policy, onshore/offshore and platform-specific considerations. The correct process is to inspect the exact CFD or FX product, measure its spread and trading hours, and identify China-related weekend catalysts. The updated evidence changes the reason for caution from “nobody trades it” to “its market structure and policy sensitivity are different.”

Cross-asset correlation is not stable, so the trader should not depend on one position perfectly hedging the other. Weekend gaps can alter relationships before normal liquidity returns.
A practical pair-risk scorecard: Create a table with one row per open currency pair. If the moderate cash stress reaches the personal weekend-loss cap, action is reduce or close regardless of the qualitative score. Mathematics overrides narrative.
Review the scorecard after Monday. If the pair behaved differently from the assumptions, update the database rather than changing the score retroactively. Over dozens of weekends, the trader will learn which variables are actually predictive for the platform and strategy.
What “avoid these pairs” should really mean: Avoid pairs you do not understand. Avoid pairs whose contract specifications you have not checked. Avoid pairs with direct weekend event exposure when the account cannot absorb a tail. Avoid duplicated currency bets that turn several small positions into one large portfolio view. This becomes especially useful when comparing GBP/JPY with EUR/USD or USD/MXN. Normalize the data before deciding which pair has the more dangerous tail for the strategy.
A simple normalized measure is absolute percentage gap from Friday midpoint to first reliable reopening midpoint. Then calculate the execution version separately using the actual bid or ask that would have closed the position. The difference between midpoint gap and executable gap captures part of the spread cost. For risk management, the executable result matters more.
Additional risk layer — the first quote is not always the best measurement: Some platforms print an isolated opening quote with an unusually wide spread before liquidity improves seconds or minutes later. If the trader records only that first tick, the database can overstate the price gap while understating the execution problem, or vice versa. Use several fields: first quote, first executable quote at normal order size, one-minute midpoint and five-minute midpoint.
The reason is practical. A stop-loss can execute on the early wide market, while a discretionary trader who waits can receive a different price. Both experiences are real but answer different questions. Stop-risk analysis should focus on executable stop conditions. Market-repricing analysis can use stabilized midpoint data. Keeping the two measures separate makes the weekend database much more useful.
Platform changes also need a marker. If the prop firm migrates from one trading platform or liquidity setup to another, do not blindly combine the old and new Sunday-spread samples. Keep the historical data, but tag the regime. The execution distribution can change even when the underlying currency pair has not.
Additional risk layer — known event versus unknown event: A known Sunday election is different from an unexpected Saturday geopolitical shock. Known events allow the trader to raise the stress scenario before Friday. Unknown events cannot be forecast, which is why the base weekend position still needs a tail buffer. Separate the database into ordinary, known-event and surprise-event weekends. This helps answer a more useful question: how much does the pair’s gap distribution change when there is a direct catalyst? If GBP pairs show materially different tails around UK political weekends, that can justify a specific size reduction rule. If AUD pairs respond more strongly to certain China-related weekends, the trader can incorporate that evidence without declaring AUD permanently dangerous.
The rule can then be written before the outcome: ordinary weekend size, elevated-event size, and no-hold conditions. A predefined ladder is easier to follow than an emotional Friday judgment made after the position has moved into profit.
Additional risk layer — the account stage: A pair that is acceptable during an early evaluation can be unacceptable near a payout or after the trailing floor has advanced. Weekend market risk is unchanged, but the value of preserving the account has changed. If the trader needs only a small amount of additional profit to complete a target, carrying a large gap-sensitive position can create poor asymmetry.
Conversely, being early in an evaluation does not justify reckless holding. The account still has a finite loss budget and replacement cost. The proper approach is to scale weekend risk to the remaining safe buffer and the strategy’s expected value, not to an emotional idea that an early-stage account is disposable.
Record stage on the pair-risk worksheet: Phase 1, Phase 2, funded, near payout, or near scaling milestone. That one field often explains why the same pair and same setup receive different Friday actions on different accounts.
Additional risk layer — Friday trend strength can create false confidence: A pair that trends strongly into Friday close can make the trader feel that momentum will continue after the weekend. The opposite can also happen: a late-Friday reversal can tempt the trader to predict a gap in the same direction. Neither observation removes the information discontinuity.
