Are you guys actually paying for a VPS, or is sub-millisecond execution an overhyped myth?

Traders spend $30–$50 a month on London/New York VPS hosting to get 1ms latency to broker servers. But if the broker’s internal dealing desk holds your order for 200ms during manual/B-book approval anyway, does VPS speed actually matter for anything other than high-frequency news bots?
