What is the difference between a false breakout and a fakeout?

False breakouts close beyond a level before reversing, while fakeouts briefly pierce a level without closing beyond it. False breaks trap breakout traders, and fakeouts trap stop-hunters. Both require different confirmation approaches. How do you tell false breakouts apart from fakeouts?
