Is passing a prop firm challenge harder than staying funded?

James Emeka

Passing a challenge is one thing, but keeping the account and receiving consistent payouts is another. Some traders pass challenges only to lose their accounts shortly afterwards. Which stage do you think requires more skill: passing the challenge or maintaining a funded account?

Staying funded and securing consistent payouts is widely considered the harder stage. Passing a challenge allows for aggressive positioning to hit target gains quickly, whereas maintaining a funded account demands strict risk management, discipline, and emotional control to respect strict daily loss limits and consistency rules.

When transitioning to a live funded account, traders often shift from a sprint mindset to a marathon. Managing position size and drawdown carefully prevents sudden account breaches.

We would love to hear from the community: how do you adjust your risk parameters once you move from a challenge phase to a live funded account?
