How do you determine whether a breakout has enough momentum?

A candle closing beyond a key level doesn't necessarily mean price will continue in that direction. The surrounding structure, speed of movement, and follow-through may provide additional information. What evidence do you look for before deciding that a breakout has genuine momentum?
