Because XAUUSD can sweep dozens of pips in seconds during US data releases, oversized lots will trigger daily loss limits or drawdown caps almost instantly on a prop account. When trading Gold, your lot size must shrink to accommodate a wider stop loss, keeping risk per trade strictly around 0.5% to 1% of your account.
Keep in mind that some prop firms also enforce strict news trading rules around high-impact US dollar events that heavily move Gold, so always check their guidelines before holding positions through major releases.
