Understanding Delta

What does delta actually tell you?

In many order flow platforms, delta is calculated as ask volume minus bid volume.

For example:

Ask volume: 1,200 contracts
Bid volume: 900 contracts
Delta: +300

That indicates more volume was classified as aggressive buying than aggressive selling under the platform's calculation method.

But positive delta doesn't guarantee bullish price action.

If buyers are aggressive and price barely moves, passive sellers may be absorbing that demand—or other market factors may be limiting the move.

Delta is useful when combined with price response, location, and market structure.

Numbers are information. Interpretation is the skill.
