How Hedge Funds Approach Markets
Do hedge funds use order flow? Yes, but their strategies vary widely.
Some institutional firms focus on execution quality, some on market making, some on statistical arbitrage, and others on longer-term investment decisions.
Their tools, infrastructure, data, and objectives can be very different from those of a retail futures trader.
For example, an execution algorithm may aim to complete a large order while managing market impact rather than predict the next five NQ points.
A retail trader can still learn useful lessons:
• Understand liquidity
• Account for transaction costs
• Avoid assuming every large order reveals direction
• Measure execution quality
• Manage risk consistently
You don't need to copy a hedge fund. You need a process appropriate for your own account and objectives.
