The Difference Between a Good Trade and a Profitable Trade

Sachin Yadav

A profitable trade isn't always a good trade, and a losing trade isn't always a bad trade.

Imagine you enter NQ without confirmation, use excessive size, and make money because price moves in your favor.

The result is positive, but the process was poor.

Now imagine you follow your strategy, define your risk, wait for confirmation, and still get stopped out.

The result is negative, but the process may have been correct.

This distinction is essential for long-term improvement.

Judge your trading by both outcomes and execution quality. Track results over a meaningful sample, and change your strategy based on evidence rather than the emotions of a single trade.

Spot on analysis! Focusing purely on outcomes rather than execution quality is a fast track to blowing accounts. When you are trading with a prop firm, bad process disguised by a lucky winning trade can easily trick you into violating daily loss limits or consistency rules on the next session.

Executing your edge with defined risk over a meaningful sample is what keeps you in the game. How do you personally track your execution quality versus your P&L?
