Market Orders vs. Limit Orders

Sachin Yadav

Market orders and limit orders solve different problems.

A market order prioritizes execution, but the final fill price can differ from the price you expected.

A limit order specifies the maximum price you are willing to pay when buying, or the minimum price you are willing to accept when selling. However, execution is not guaranteed.

For example, buying NQ with a market order may get you into a moving market quickly, but the fill could be worse than expected.

A limit order may offer more price control, but the market could move away without filling it.

Neither order type is universally better.

The right choice depends on your strategy, market conditions, and the trade-off between execution certainty and price control.
