What Is High-Frequency Trading?

Sachin Yadav

High-frequency trading is not simply trading quickly on a one-minute chart.

HFT generally refers to automated trading approaches that operate at very high speeds and may submit, modify, or cancel orders rapidly.

These firms can use specialized infrastructure, sophisticated models, and direct exchange connectivity to compete in particular market niches.

Their objectives vary, and not every automated firm is an HFT firm.

For a retail trader studying NQ order flow, trying to compete with institutional systems on raw speed is usually the wrong focus.

A more practical approach is to develop a strategy around market conditions, disciplined execution, and risk management.

You don't need to be the fastest participant to build a trading process. You need a process suited to your capabilities and constraints.
