What Is Auction Market Theory?
Auction Market Theory: thinking about price as a discovery process
Markets continuously bring buyers and sellers together to establish prices at which transactions can occur.
Auction Market Theory provides a framework for understanding how price explores different levels and where trading activity becomes concentrated.
In practical chart analysis, traders often examine:
Value areas where substantial trading occurred.
High-volume nodes that indicate concentrated activity.
Low-volume areas where relatively little volume accumulated.
Breakouts that establish acceptance outside a previous range.
These concepts can help organize market structure, but they don't predict every move.
I find the framework useful because it shifts the question from "Which candle pattern is this?" to "Where is the market finding acceptance, and where is it rejecting prices?"
