Why the Market Can Move Without Huge Volume

Sachin Yadav

A sharp price move doesn't always require unusually high trading volume.

Price movement depends on the interaction between incoming orders and available opposing liquidity.

If relatively little liquidity is available near the current price, even a moderate burst of aggressive orders can move the market through several price levels.

Conversely, a large amount of trading can occur while price remains relatively stable if opposing orders absorb the activity.

This is why I avoid interpreting volume in isolation.

When studying a fast move in NQ, I want to know how much traded, how far price travelled, and what liquidity conditions were present.

Volume describes activity. Price movement describes the result.

Together, they provide a more useful picture of market behavior.
