Why I Don't Assume Low Volume Means Smart Money Is Absent
Low volume doesn't tell me that institutional participants are absent.
Large participants can execute orders in different ways, and activity varies across instruments, sessions, and market conditions.
A quiet market can still contain meaningful order placement and execution.
I avoid drawing conclusions about who is participating based on volume alone.
Instead, I focus on observable evidence: executed trades, available liquidity, price response, and changes in market structure.
It's better to describe what the data shows than to claim knowledge of who is behind every move.
