How Do You Determine Whether a Trading Setup Is Too Dependent on One Indicator?

An indicator may help identify opportunities, but relying on it too heavily can make a strategy vulnerable to its weaknesses. How do you test whether an indicator contributes useful information beyond what price alone provides? Would you remove it temporarily to see whether the strategy's decisions meaningfully change?
