A demo strategy performs well but live trades show more slippage and hesitation. If you have faced something similar, what happened and what did you learn? What would you do differently next time, and what would you keep unchanged?

Moving from demo to live accounts often highlights the reality of execution differences, slippage, and emotional hesitation. In demo environments, fills are typically simulated at the exact quoted price without real liquidity constraints, which flatters backtest results. In live trading, however, market orders suffer from slippage during fast moves, and psychological hesitation creeps in because real capital or a live evaluation account is on the line.

For prop firm traders, managing this transition is critical to protecting daily loss limits and consistency rules. Hesitation can lead to missed entries or delayed stop-losses, turning a minor drawdown into a rule breach. To adapt, many traders factor expected slippage into their backtests, use limit orders where appropriate, and stick strictly to a pre-defined risk plan to reduce emotional interference.
