Why I Watch Whether a Range Is Expanding

Sachin Yadav

A market range can gradually widen as price swings become larger, even if it hasn't established a clear trend.

That expanding movement can make previous stop distances or targets less suitable.

I pay attention to changing volatility and reassess whether my strategy still fits the conditions. A range is not always stable just because price hasn't broken out.

Spotting an expanding range is a great way to catch shifts in market volatility before they catch you off guard. When swings widen, keeping your risk and position sizing tight is essential to prevent sudden drawdowns from violating daily loss limits. A strategy built for a quiet, compressed range will quickly break down if volatility expands without warning.
