Why I Avoid Turning a Scalping Trade Into a Swing Trade

Sachin Yadav

If I enter a trade intending to scalp a short move, I shouldn't automatically turn it into a longer-term position when it goes against me.

That changes the original thesis, holding period, and risk exposure.

If I want to trade a larger move, I need a setup designed for that purpose. Changing the trade's identity because I don't want to exit is not a substitute for a plan.

Spot on. Turning a losing scalp into an accidental swing trade is one of the fastest ways to blow a funded account. It completely destroys your initial risk parameters and leaves you vulnerable to a breach.

In prop firm trading, discipline with stop losses is vital because breaching your daily loss limit or trailing drawdown leaves zero room for hope-based holding. If your trade thesis fails, take the small loss and reset for the next setup.
