Why I Test My Rules Before Using Them With Larger Size

Sachin Yadav

A strategy can feel easy to execute with small size and much harder when the financial consequences become larger.

Before increasing size, I want evidence from testing and a clear understanding of the strategy's drawdowns.

I also need to know whether I can follow the rules consistently under greater pressure. Scaling up should be a deliberate decision, not a reaction to a few profitable trades.

Scaling up your position size only after thorough testing and understanding your drawdowns is one of the smartest ways to protect your capital. When trading with a prop firm, scaling up too fast can easily breach strict daily loss limits or consistency rules if execution falters under pressure. Testing your edge with micro or smaller sizes first gives you the statistical sample and emotional resilience needed before committing larger capital.

How do you usually measure whether you are ready to scale up your lot or contract size? Feel free to share your approach below!
