Title: How Do You Handle a Trade That Moves Slowly?

Discussion:

Sometimes price takes much longer than expected to reach a target. During these periods, traders may feel tempted to close early or change the original plan without a valid reason.

I believe patience should be supported by clear trade management rules, not by blindly hoping for a result.

Do you use a time-based exit rule, or do you manage trades mainly through price action?

Handling a slow-moving trade is primarily a test of trade psychology and clear rule adherence rather than emotional guessing. Many traders rely strictly on structural price action—such as key support and resistance levels, trendline breaks, or market structure shifts—rather than arbitrary time-based exits, ensuring they do not cut winning setups short out of boredom.

In prop firm trading, staying in sluggish trades too long or improperly managing open risk can dangerously bump against strict daily loss limits or consistency rules if volatility suddenly spikes against your position. Having predefined invalidation points keeps your capital safe and prevents impulsive management.

How do you personally handle periods of low volatility? Do you use time-based stops, or stick entirely to price action? Feel free to share your approach below!
