Bias Update Frequency

Michael Francis

How often during a session do you consciously re-evaluate your directional bias? Do you have fixed checkpoints (mid-morning, lunch, etc.) or only when price forces the issue?

I’d use a combination of fixed checkpoints and price-action triggers rather than constantly changing my directional bias throughout the session.

Before the session: Establish the initial bias using higher-timeframe structure, key levels, and the economic calendar.

At the session open: Observe how price reacts around important levels before committing to a setup.

Mid-session: Reassess whether price is still respecting the original scenario or showing signs of a potential reversal.

Whenever structure changes: Reevaluate immediately if price breaks a key level, invalidates the original setup, or confirms an opposing move.
