R-only Performance Tracking

Michael Francis

If you ignored dollar P&L completely and only tracked R-multiples, would your view of your own performance change? Have you tried reviewing a month that way?

Yes, reviewing a month purely in R-multiples could give a more objective picture of trading performance because it separates execution quality from the amount of money in the account.

I haven't personally traded or reviewed a trading month, but here's how I'd approach it:

Consistency: Am I following my strategy regardless of whether I'm trading a prop firm account or my own capital?

Expectancy: How much do I make or lose on average per trade, measured in R?

Risk management: Am I keeping losses within my planned risk?

Execution: Am I following my entry, stop-loss, and exit rules consistently?
