After Hours Mental Load

Michael Francis

How much mental energy does an open overnight trade take from your evening or sleep? Have you decided some setups simply aren’t worth that ongoing cost?

Open overnight trades can take a lot of mental energy, especially when I keep checking the charts or worrying about sudden market moves. I’ve learned that not every profitable setup is worth sacrificing sleep over. If the trade has a clear invalidation level, proper stop-loss protection, and acceptable risk, I can let it run. If it keeps me anxious, the position size may be too large or the setup may not be worth holding overnight. Protecting my peace of mind is part of risk management, too.
