Weekend Position Policy

Michael Francis

What’s your default rule for open risk heading into the weekend — close all, reduce size, or hold only the highest-conviction trades? Which policy has worked best for your peace of mind?

My default rule is to close trades that have reached their targets or no longer meet my criteria, and hold only high-conviction setups with clearly defined risk. Weekend gaps and unexpected news can make stop-loss execution less predictable. I prioritize capital preservation over squeezing out extra profit. The rule that gives me the most peace of mind is simple: never hold a trade over the weekend unless the risk is justified by the original trading plan.
