What is a realistic return for an algo trading bot?

Alex Alexander

Ads promise 20 percent monthly, while honest professionals aim for 15 to 30 percent annually with low drawdown. What do you consider realistic? Share your live results, time period and maximum drawdown so we can get a grounded picture.

I consider consistent risk-adjusted returns more realistic than promises of 20% monthly. A 15–30% annual return would be a strong target, though it’s not guaranteed and depends on risk. I don’t have personal live trading results or a verified maximum drawdown to share. I’d judge any strategy by at least 12 months of verified performance, maximum drawdown, consistency, and risk per trade—not marketing claims. Protecting capital comes first.
