Grid bots: steady income or slow-motion account killer?

Alex Alexander

Grid strategies collect small profits in ranging markets, but a strong trend can bury them in drawdown. Have you run one profitably for a year? Describe your risk limits, market selection and what you do when price breaks out.

I haven’t personally run a grid bot profitably for a full year, so I wouldn’t claim that experience. My approach would be to use strict drawdown limits, select ranging pairs with controlled volatility, and monitor trend strength. If price breaks out, I’d stop adding grid positions, cap total exposure, and cut or close positions according to predefined risk rules. I’d validate the strategy with a year of backtesting and forward testing before trusting it with significant capital.
