Is comparing your progress with other traders useful?

Other traders' results can offer ideas and motivation, but their experience, risk tolerance, and circumstances may be completely different. Constant comparison can also distract from personal development. Do you find community comparisons helpful, or do you prefer measuring progress against your own previous performance?
