HyroTrader's Profit Distribution Rule says that no single trading day may be more than 40% of the profit target, on both the One-Step and the Two-Step. On a $50K One-Step with a $5,000 target, your best day can count for at most $2,000. In practice, it means you need at least three profitable days to pass, and a smoother spread than that is safer.
This is HyroTrader's version of a consistency rule. It catches more traders than the drawdown does, mostly because they find out about it after their best day. Here is how it works, with numbers for the account sizes most people buy.
Key takeaways
- Applies to the One-Step and both phases of the Two-Step.
- Limit: no single trading day above 40% of that stage's profit target.
- A day is measured on its net result from closed trades, according to HyroTrader's guidance.
- HyroTrader's own example shows that only the part of a day up to the limit counts toward the evaluation, so a huge day means you need more profit from other days.
- Because 40% + 40% + 20% = 100%, the minimum number of profitable days is three. You still need at least 5 trading days per stage.
What the rule actually says
Each stage has a profit target: 10% on the One-Step, 10% in Two-Step Phase 1 and 5% in Two-Step Phase 2. Take 40% of that target in dollars. That is the most any single trading day can contribute toward passing.
HyroTrader's guidance bases the daily figure on the net result of the trades you closed that day. Open positions do not count until they are closed. That matters for swing traders: closing a big winner on one day puts the whole result into that day.
If a day goes over the limit, the trade is not reversed and the money does not disappear from the account. HyroTrader's example shows that only the amount up to the limit counts toward the evaluation result. You then need extra qualifying profit from other days before the stage is complete.
The 40% limit by account size
| Account | Stage | Target | Largest day that counts (40%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| $10,000 | One-Step | $1,000 | $400 |
| $10,000 | Two-Step Phase 1 | $1,000 | $400 |
| $10,000 | Two-Step Phase 2 | $500 | $200 |
| $50,000 | One-Step | $5,000 | $2,000 |
| $50,000 | Two-Step Phase 1 | $5,000 | $2,000 |
| $50,000 | Two-Step Phase 2 | $2,500 | $1,000 |
| $100,000 | One-Step | $10,000 | $4,000 |
| $100,000 | Two-Step Phase 1 | $10,000 | $4,000 |
| $100,000 | Two-Step Phase 2 | $5,000 | $2,000 |
Notice Phase 2. Its target is half of Phase 1's, so the daily cap is also half. Traders who are comfortable in Phase 1 are often surprised by how small a "big day" becomes in Phase 2.
Worked example: $10K One-Step
Target $1,000. Largest counted day $400.
The trader who gets caught
| Day | Net closed result | Counts toward target |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | +$650 | $400 (capped) |
| 2 | +$120 | $120 |
| 3 | -$80 | -$80 |
| 4 | +$210 | $210 |
| 5 | +$100 | $100 |
Raw profit: 650 + 120 - 80 + 210 + 100 = $1,000. On the dashboard the account looks like it hit the target on Day 5. But Day 1 only counts for $400, so the counted total is 400 + 120 - 80 + 210 + 100 = $750. The trader still needs $250 more of qualifying profit, and every new day is again capped at $400.
The fix is not dramatic: one or two more normal days finish it. The danger is psychological. A trader who believed they had passed often takes a careless trade to "close it out" and gives back far more.
Worked example: $50K One-Step
Target $5,000. Largest counted day $2,000. Here is a realistic, rule-friendly six-day run:
| Day | Net closed result | Share of target |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | +$1,200 | 24% |
| 2 | +$900 | 18% |
| 3 | -$300 | -6% |
| 4 | +$1,500 | 30% |
| 5 | +$1,100 | 22% |
| 6 | +$600 | 12% |
| Total | +$5,000 | 100% |
No day is above 30% of the target, so every day counts in full. The losing day on Day 3 is normal and it does not break anything. This is what a steady strategy looks like under the rule.
Worked example: $100K Two-Step
Phase 1 target $10,000, cap $4,000 per day. Phase 2 target $5,000, cap $2,000 per day.
Say Phase 1 goes well: $2,500, $1,800, $3,100, -$400 and $3,000 over five days. Total: 2,500 + 1,800 + 3,100 - 400 + 3,000 = $10,000. The biggest day is $3,100, which is 31% of the target. Phase 1 passes.
In Phase 2 the trader keeps the same size and makes $3,100 on the first day. That is 62% of the $5,000 target. Only $2,000 counts. Four more days of $750 each add $3,000, for a counted total of $5,000 and a raw profit of $6,100. They passed, but they had to earn $1,100 more than the target to do it, and every extra trade was more exposure to the 5% daily and 10% maximum loss limits.
The lesson: in Phase 2, cut your normal position size so your typical good day fits under the smaller cap.
How to plan your days so you pass
- Work out your daily cap before Day 1. Write it down: 40% of the stage target in dollars.
- Set a daily "enough" level. Aim for a good day around 20% to 30% of the target. Once you reach the cap, stop opening new trades that day.
- Size so that one winner cannot blow through the cap. If your best trades make 3R, then 3R should be below the cap. On a $50K One-Step with a $2,000 cap, that means risking no more than about $650 per trade.
- Be careful with swing positions. Profit is counted on the day you close. Taking partial profit across different days spreads the result.
- Remember the minimum days. You need at least 5 trading days per stage anyway, and a day counts only when it has at least one opened and closed trade that meets HyroTrader's conditions.
- Check the dashboard. HyroTrader's own figures decide whether the rule is met, not your spreadsheet.
How the 40% rule interacts with the daily drawdown
The two rules pull in the same direction. On a $50K One-Step, the daily drawdown is $2,000 and the largest counted day is also $2,000. A strategy that can make $2,000 in a day can usually lose $2,000 in a day too, so if your good days regularly reach the cap, your bad days are probably flirting with the daily limit. Sizing down for the 40% rule also protects you from the drawdown.
On the Two-Step the picture is different. Phase 2 on a $50K account has a $2,500 daily loss limit but only a $1,000 counted cap. Here the 40% rule is clearly the tighter constraint, and a trader who keeps Phase 1 size will often make days that do not fully count.
A sample plan for a $10K One-Step
Target $1,000, counted cap $400, daily drawdown $400, maximum drawdown $600. The daily drawdown and the cap are the same number here, which makes the plan easy:
- Risk about $60 to $80 per trade (0.6% to 0.8%).
- Stop opening new trades for the day at +$250 or -$200.
- Expect four to six good days and one or two red days.
- A run like +$250, +$180, -$150, +$240, +$220, +$260 adds up to exactly $1,000, with the best day at 26% of the target.
It looks slow on paper. In practice it passes, and it leaves the account with room for the losing days every trader has.
Mistakes I see most often
- Finding the rule after the big day. Read it before you buy.
- Filler trades to dilute a big day. Opening tiny trades purely to tick boxes does not help, because a day's contribution is about the profit, and tiny trades may not even count as a qualifying day. It also adds fee drag.
- Doubling size to "finish faster". Bigger size makes it more likely that one day passes the cap, and more likely that one day hits the 4% or 5% daily drawdown.
- Forgetting that Phase 2 has a smaller cap. Same size, half the room under the rule.
- Treating a raw target as a pass. The dashboard total can show the target while the counted total is still short.
A quick self-test before you buy
Export your daily results for the last two or three months. For each month, take your total profit and your single best day. If the best day is regularly more than 40% of the month's total, your trading is concentrated, and you should expect HyroTrader's evaluation to take extra days. If it is usually under 30%, the rule will rarely matter to you.
Who the rule hurts and who it barely touches
The rule barely affects day traders and scalpers with steady daily results. It hurts traders whose edge comes from a few large trend days, such as breakout traders who sit through quiet weeks and then catch one big move. If that is your style, you are not doing anything wrong, but expect HyroTrader's evaluation to take longer, and compare firms that have no consistency rule. Our perpetual futures prop firms hub shows which firms have one. Breakout Prop, for example, has no consistency rule on its core plans.
Other HyroTrader programs use a different version, with no single trade above 50%. This article covers the One-Step and Two-Step, where the 40% daily rule applies.
Final thoughts
The 40% Profit Distribution Rule is not a trap if you plan for it. Know your cap, size so one trade cannot break it, and expect at least three solid days per stage. Prop Firm Bridge scores HyroTrader 84/100, PFB Verified, and the rest of the rulebook is in our HyroTrader review. If you want to check how your own sizing fits, try the position size calculator.

Frequently asked questions
Yes. On the One-Step and Two-Step, the Profit Distribution Rule says no single trading day may be more than 40% of the profit target. Other HyroTrader programs use a 50% single-trade version instead.
The trade is not reversed. HyroTrader's own example shows that only the part of the day up to the 40% limit counts toward the evaluation, so you need extra qualifying profit from other days to complete the stage.
You can make more, but only $2,000 of a single day counts toward the $5,000 One-Step or Phase 1 target. In Two-Step Phase 2 the target is $2,500, so the counted cap is $1,000.
Because no day can count for more than 40%, you need at least three profitable days to reach a target. You also need a minimum of 5 trading days per stage.
HyroTrader's guidance bases each day on the net result of closed trades. Profit is counted on the day you close the position, so closing a big winner puts the whole result into that day.
