HyroTrader's One-Step is faster and costs more: one 10% target, but a tight 4% daily drawdown and 6% maximum drawdown. The Two-Step is slower and cheaper: two targets (10% then 5%), with more room at 5% daily and 10% maximum loss. If your normal losing streak would get close to 6% of the account, the Two-Step is usually the better fit even though it takes longer.
I have traded both styles of evaluation for years, and the choice almost never comes down to price. It comes down to how your equity curve moves on a bad week. Below are the numbers side by side, two worked examples, and a simple way to decide.
Key takeaways
- One-Step: 10% target, 4% daily drawdown, 6% maximum drawdown, minimum 5 trading days.
- Two-Step: 10% target in Phase 1, 5% in Phase 2, 5% daily loss, 10% maximum loss, minimum 5 trading days per phase (10 in total).
- The Two-Step is cheaper at every size, from $10 less on a $5K account to $330 less on a $200K account.
- Both have the same 40% Profit Distribution Rule: no single trading day can be more than 40% of the profit target.
- Both trade USDT perpetual futures only, on simulated accounts, with an 80% starting profit split and a published path to 90%.
The rules side by side
Here is the core rulebook for each challenge, taken from HyroTrader's own pages in October 2026.
| Rule | One-Step | Two-Step |
|---|---|---|
| Profit target | 10% | 10% (Phase 1), then 5% (Phase 2) |
| Daily drawdown / daily loss | 4% | 5% |
| Maximum drawdown / maximum loss | 6% | 10% |
| Minimum trading days | 5 | 5 per phase (10 in total) |
| Profit Distribution Rule | No day above 40% of the target | No day above 40% of the target |
| Time limit | None | None |
| Mandatory stop loss | No (stops are recommended) | Check your account rules |
| Starting profit split | 80%, path to 90% | 80%, path to 90% |
Both routes let you choose the daily drawdown model at checkout. The Standard model trails your intraday equity peak. The Swing model is a paid upgrade that keeps the daily level static. That choice matters as much as One-Step versus Two-Step, so read our full HyroTrader review if you have not compared the two models yet.
List prices by account size
These are HyroTrader's list prices for each size. The difference column is simply the One-Step price minus the Two-Step price.
| Account size | One-Step | Two-Step | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| $5,000 | $69 | $59 | $10 |
| $10,000 | $129 | $119 | $10 |
| $25,000 | $299 | $249 | $50 |
| $50,000 | $499 | $379 | $120 |
| $100,000 | $749 | $579 | $170 |
| $200,000 | $1,299 | $969 | $330 |
On small accounts the gap is tiny. From $50K upward it becomes real money, and that is where most traders start asking which one is "worth it". The honest answer: the cheaper challenge is only cheaper if you pass it in fewer attempts. You can see every account and price on our HyroTrader challenges page.
Worked example 1: a $50K account
One-Step on $50,000
- Profit target: 10% = $5,000
- Daily drawdown: 4% = $2,000
- Maximum drawdown: 6% = $3,000
- Largest single day that counts under the 40% rule: 40% of $5,000 = $2,000
- List price: $499
You need to make $5,000 while never losing more than $3,000 from the account's limit. Your reward-to-room ratio is 5,000 / 3,000, about 1.67. In plain words, you have to make more than one and a half times what you are allowed to lose in total. A trader who risks $500 per trade reaches the limit after six full losses in a row, and sooner than that once fees are counted.
Two-Step on $50,000
- Phase 1 target: 10% = $5,000
- Phase 2 target: 5% = $2,500
- Daily loss: 5% = $2,500
- Maximum loss: 10% = $5,000
- Largest day under the 40% rule: $2,000 in Phase 1, $1,000 in Phase 2
- List price: $379
Phase 1 asks for the same $5,000, but now you have $5,000 of total room instead of $3,000. The ratio drops to 1.0: you need to make what you are allowed to lose. With the same $500 risk per trade, it takes ten full losses in a row to reach the maximum loss. Phase 2 then asks for only $2,500 with the same $5,000 of room.
The cost of that extra room is time. You need at least 10 trading days instead of 5, and you have to stay disciplined through a second phase after you already "passed" once. Many traders fail Phase 2 because they relax or try to finish it in two big days, which the 40% rule does not allow anyway.
Worked example 2: a $100K account
| $100,000 account | One-Step | Two-Step |
|---|---|---|
| Target | $10,000 | $10,000 then $5,000 |
| Daily limit | $4,000 | $5,000 |
| Maximum loss | $6,000 | $10,000 |
| Largest counted day (40%) | $4,000 | $4,000 (Phase 1), $2,000 (Phase 2) |
| Minimum days | 5 | 10 in total |
| List price | $749 | $579 |
Suppose your normal risk is $750 per trade, which is 0.75% of $100,000. On the One-Step, eight straight full losses ($6,000) end the account. On the Two-Step, it would take more than thirteen. On the daily side, the One-Step allows about five full losses in a day before the $4,000 limit, while the Two-Step allows six before $5,000. Remember that the per-position rule also applies: a single position cannot realize a loss above 3% of the initial balance, which is $3,000 here.
Now look at your own history. If your worst peak-to-trough drawdown in the last year of trading was 5% on your normal size, the One-Step leaves you just 1% of buffer before the 6% limit. That is not enough. The Two-Step's 10% gives you real breathing room. If your worst drawdown was 2%, the One-Step's speed starts to make sense.
How the minimum days and the 40% rule change the maths
Both challenges have a minimum of 5 trading days per stage, and HyroTrader counts a day only when it includes at least one opened and closed trade that meets its qualifying conditions. Use the dashboard counter, not your own guess.
The 40% Profit Distribution Rule means no single trading day may be more than 40% of the profit target. Since 40% + 40% + 20% = 100%, you need at least three profitable days to reach any target, even in a perfect run. On the One-Step that rarely bites, because you need 5 days anyway. On the Two-Step's Phase 2, the target is smaller (5%), so the cap per day is also smaller. On a $50K account Phase 2 caps a counted day at $1,000. Traders who are used to finishing a phase in one strong move get caught here.
Who the One-Step suits
- Traders with a shallow, steady equity curve whose real drawdowns stay well under 6%.
- Scalpers and intraday traders who close positions most days and rarely hold through big swings.
- Traders who want one stage, fewer chances to make a process error, and a faster route to the funded stage.
- Traders who are comfortable paying more for that speed.
Who the Two-Step suits
- Swing traders who hold BTC, ETH or altcoin perps over days and see larger open-equity swings.
- Traders whose historical drawdown sits around 4% to 8%, where the One-Step's 6% would be too tight.
- Traders who are patient enough to prove the strategy twice and do not mind a minimum of 10 trading days.
- Anyone who wants a lower entry price for the same account size.
Things that are the same on both
Whichever you pick, you trade USDT perpetual futures only (all Bybit USDT pairs except EUR/USD, around 700 pairs). Spot, USDC perps, COIN-M futures and options are not allowed. You can trade on HyroTrader's own platform, or through Bybit, BloFin, Tealstreet or Tiger.com routes, and execution is simulated. Maximum leverage is up to 100x on Bybit USDT perps (pair limits vary) and up to 150x on BTC and ETH on the BloFin route, but leverage is capacity, not a target.
The same risk limits apply too: 3% maximum realized loss on one position, 25% total exposure, combined open-position value no higher than the initial balance, and a 5% cap on low-cap coins including leverage. Martingale, cross-account hedging, news-only strategies and copy trading are prohibited on both. An account with no trade for 30 days fails.
Downsides to weigh honestly
- The Standard daily drawdown trails your intraday equity peak, which punishes giving back open profit. That affects both challenges.
- The 40% rule slows down traders whose edge comes from a few big days.
- The One-Step's 6% maximum is tight for crypto, where a single liquidation cascade can move a position several percent in minutes.
- The Two-Step doubles the minimum days and adds a second chance to make a mistake.
Prop Firm Bridge scores HyroTrader 84/100, PFB Verified. If you want to see how it compares with other firms that trade perps, our perpetual futures prop firms hub has every firm side by side.
A quick way to decide
- Find your worst peak-to-trough drawdown over the last 6 to 12 months at the size you plan to trade.
- If it is under about half of 6% (3%), the One-Step is a fair choice.
- If it is between 3% and 8%, choose the Two-Step.
- If it is above 8%, cut your position size first. Neither challenge fits that profile.
- Check your biggest winning day against 40% of the target. If it regularly exceeds it, expect to need extra days.
Final thoughts
The One-Step buys speed with a smaller safety margin. The Two-Step buys room with time and a second phase. Neither is "better" on its own. Pick the one your past trading would have passed, not the one that looks fastest on the sales page. And size each trade from the drawdown, not from the headline balance.

Frequently asked questions
It depends on your drawdown. The One-Step has one 10% target but only 4% daily and 6% maximum drawdown. The Two-Step has two targets (10% and 5%) with 5% daily and 10% maximum loss, so traders with deeper swings usually find it easier to survive.
One-Step list prices are $69, $129, $299, $499, $749 and $1,299 for $5K to $200K. Two-Step list prices are $59, $119, $249, $379, $579 and $969 for the same sizes.
The One-Step needs a minimum of 5 trading days. The Two-Step needs at least 5 trading days in each phase, so 10 in total. There is no maximum time limit.
Yes. On both the One-Step and the Two-Step, no single trading day may be more than 40% of the profit target. This means you need at least three profitable days to reach any target.
