HyroTrader has four position-level risk limits on top of its drawdown rules: a realized loss on one position cannot be more than 3% of the initial balance, total exposure is capped at 25% of the initial balance, the combined value of open positions cannot exceed the initial balance, and low-cap coins are limited to 5% of the initial balance including leverage. Break one and the account is at risk even if your drawdown is fine.
Most prop traders only watch the daily and maximum drawdown. On a crypto perps firm with up to 100x leverage available, these extra limits are what stop one oversized trade. Here is each one in dollars, with sizing examples and a checklist I use before every order.
Key takeaways
- 3% per position: realized loss on one position, maximum 3% of the initial balance.
- 25% exposure: total exposure and risk across open positions capped at 25% of the initial balance.
- Open value cap: combined open-position value must not exceed the initial balance.
- Low-cap coins: maximum 5% of the initial balance, including leverage.
- Prohibited: martingale, cross-account hedging or opposite trades, news-only strategies, account sharing, exploitative or high-speed techniques, copy trading and third-party signals.
- Allowed: news trading (not news-only), weekend and overnight holding, and bots or AI agents if the strategy is your own.
Every limit in dollars
| Limit | Rule | $25K | $50K | $100K | $200K |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Realized loss per position | 3% of initial balance | $750 | $1,500 | $3,000 | $6,000 |
| Total exposure / risk | 25% of initial balance | $6,250 | $12,500 | $25,000 | $50,000 |
| Combined open-position value | Up to the initial balance | $25,000 | $50,000 | $100,000 | $200,000 |
| Low-cap coin position | 5% incl. leverage | $1,250 | $2,500 | $5,000 | $10,000 |
These sit alongside the drawdown rules: 4% daily and 6% maximum on the One-Step, 5% daily and 10% maximum on the Two-Step. Note that on a One-Step, the 3% per-position limit is three quarters of the 4% daily limit. One position can use most of your day.
The 3% per-position rule
A single position may not realize a loss above 3% of the initial balance. On a $50K account that is $1,500. The rule looks at the realized loss on that position, so a position that runs far into the red and is then closed counts with its full loss, fees included in your real result.
This rule exists to stop one trade from deciding the account. Most experienced traders risk well under 1% per trade, and at that level the 3% limit never comes close. It bites when traders trade without a stop or widen a stop "just this once". HyroTrader does not make a stop loss mandatory on its main One-Step rules, but this limit is a good reason to use one anyway.
The 25% exposure cap and the open value cap
HyroTrader caps total exposure and risk at 25% of the initial balance, and separately requires that the combined value of all open positions does not exceed the initial balance. Read together, they stop you from stacking many leveraged positions at once. Your dashboard shows how the exposure figure is measured on your account, so check it there.
Example: four positions on $100K
- BTC long, position value $30,000
- ETH long, $25,000
- SOL long, $20,000
- Combined value: $75,000. Under the $100,000 limit.
Now you want a fourth position of $30,000 in another major. The combined value would be $105,000, which is above the initial balance. You would need to cut it to $25,000 or less, or close part of an existing position.
Depending on how your dashboard measures exposure, the 25% cap can be the tighter of the two limits, so look at both numbers before stacking positions, not only the open value.
Leverage does not change this. Having up to 100x available on Bybit USDT perps, or up to 150x on BTC and ETH on the BloFin route, only means you put up less margin. The position value is what these rules look at.
Low-cap coins: 5% including leverage
HyroTrader lists around 700 USDT perpetual pairs. Many of them are small coins with thin order books and sudden moves. A low-cap coin position is limited to 5% of the initial balance, including leverage. On a $100K account, the full position value in that coin can be at most $5,000.
Example: you want to trade a small-cap coin with a 6% stop. Maximum position value $5,000. If the stop is hit, the loss is $5,000 x 6% = $300, plus fees. That is small next to your $4,000 daily limit, which is the point: the rule keeps a single low-liquidity coin from doing real damage. Slippage on these coins can be much worse than on BTC or ETH, so expect the real loss at the stop to be larger than the maths.
Position sizing examples
The rule of thumb: decide your dollar risk first, then let the stop distance decide the position size. Position value = dollar risk / stop distance. Our position size calculator does this for you.
Example 1: BTC on a $50K One-Step
- Dollar risk: 0.5% of $50,000 = $250.
- Stop distance: 1.5% below entry.
- Position value: $250 / 0.015 = about $16,667.
- Fees at the taker rate of 0.0550% on entry and exit: $16,667 x 0.00055 x 2 = about $18.33. Real loss at the stop is about $268.
- Checks: $268 is far below the $1,500 per-position limit and the $2,000 daily limit. Position value $16,667 is well under the $50,000 open value cap.
Example 2: ETH on a $100K Two-Step
- Dollar risk: 0.5% of $100,000 = $500.
- Stop distance: 2%.
- Position value: $500 / 0.02 = $25,000.
- Taker fees both ways: $25,000 x 0.00055 x 2 = $27.50. Real loss at the stop about $527.50.
- Checks: below the $3,000 per-position limit and the $5,000 daily loss. Combined open value is $25,000, well under $100,000. Before adding more positions, check the exposure figure on your dashboard against the 25% cap.
Example 3: what a too-large trade looks like
On a $25K One-Step, a trader opens a $25,000 SOL position with a 4% stop. Loss at the stop: $1,000. That is above the $750 per-position limit and equal to the full $1,000 daily drawdown. The same trade at $15,000 of position value loses $600 at the stop, which fits both limits with room to spare.
Correlation: why five altcoins can be one trade
The limits above look at positions and value. Your real risk also depends on how your positions move together. In a broad crypto sell-off, BTC, ETH, SOL and most altcoins tend to fall at the same time. Five long positions that each risk $300 can behave like one $1,500 position in that moment.
On a $50K One-Step, $1,500 is the full per-position limit and three quarters of the $2,000 daily drawdown. None of the five positions breaks the 3% rule on its own, but together they can take most of your day in one move. If you hold several longs or several shorts in correlated coins, add up their dollar risk and treat that total as a single trade when you check the daily drawdown. On the Standard trailing model, include any open profit that could be given back too.
Fees and funding count too
On Bybit and Tealstreet routes the fees are Bybit VIP 0 USDT perp rates: maker 0.0200%, taker 0.0550%. HyroTrader's own platform applies realistic fees and slippage on live Bybit data. Execution is simulated on all routes. If you hold positions for days, funding payments also move your equity. None of these are large on one trade, but they add up on a high-frequency strategy and they count against your drawdown.
Prohibited strategies
HyroTrader does not allow:
- Martingale (adding size after losses to win it back).
- Cross-account hedging or opposite trades across accounts.
- News-only strategies. Trading through news is fine, but a strategy built only around news spikes is not.
- Account sharing.
- Exploitative or high-speed techniques.
- Copy trading, mirroring or third-party signals.
What is allowed: news trading as part of a normal strategy, holding overnight and over the weekend, and bots, scripts or AI agents as long as the strategy is your own. If you run automation, keep written confirmation from HyroTrader for your exact setup.
Other limits worth knowing
- Markets: USDT perpetual futures only. No spot, no USDC perps, no COIN-M futures and no options. EUR/USD is excluded.
- Inactivity: an account with no trade in 30 days fails.
- Multiple accounts: up to $400,000 across challenge and verification accounts, and $200,000 across funded accounts.
Pre-trade checklist
- Is the pair a USDT perpetual on the allowed list?
- Is it a low-cap coin? If yes, is the full position value at or below 5% of the initial balance?
- What is my dollar risk, and is the loss at the stop, plus fees, well under 3% of the initial balance?
- Would this loss, added to today's results, stay well inside the daily drawdown? On the Standard model, measure from today's equity peak.
- After this order, is combined open-position value still at or below the initial balance?
- Is total exposure still within 25% of the initial balance?
- Are my other positions correlated with this one? If yes, treat them as one bigger position.
- Could this trade make today more than 40% of the profit target if it hits its take profit?
- Is this part of my own strategy, not a copied signal or a news-only setup?
Final thoughts
HyroTrader's risk limits are stricter than many traders expect from a firm that offers up to 100x. That is a good thing for your account if you size from dollar risk and not from available leverage. Prop Firm Bridge scores HyroTrader 84/100, PFB Verified, with a 4.3 rating for trading conditions; the full HyroTrader review covers the rest, and our crypto prop firms list shows how it ranks.
Rules checked on HyroTrader's own site, October 2026. Firms change rules; Prop Firm Bridge's rule changes tracker shows every change.
