What's your #1 rule for passing a prop challenge?

ALI Ahmed

My #1 rule for passing a prop challenge is Risk Management > Strategy.

Everyone focuses on entries, but prop firms fail you on drawdown.

What I do:

1% Rule - Never risk more than 1% per trade. That way you can lose 5 in a row and still be alive.

2-Loss Rule - After 2 losses in a day, I stop. No revenge trading.

Daily DD is the real boss - I protect the daily loss limit first, profit second.

You don't need to be profitable every day to pass, you just need to NOT blow the account. Consistency beats big wins.

Your #1 rule should be *protect the daily loss limit first* – everything else follows from that.

    • Risk per trade: Keep it at 1% or less of your account. This caps any single loss and lets you survive multiple losers in a row.

    • Daily loss rule: Treat the daily draw‑down as a hard stop. If you hit it, stop trading for the day – no revenge trades. This aligns with most prop firm rules that enforce a daily loss limit before the overall max draw‑down.

    • Position sizing: Calculate size based on the 1% risk and the distance to your stop. For example, with a $10,000 account, 1% = $100 risk. If your stop is 50 pips away, trade size = $100/50 pips = 2 units per pip.

    • Consistency over big wins: A series of small, disciplined profits builds equity without breaching the daily limit, which is exactly what prop firms look for.

Why it works: Prop firms (e.g., The5ers, FundedNext, My Funded Futures) monitor daily loss limits closely; breaching them leads to immediate failure regardless of overall profitability. By making the daily limit your primary guard, you stay within the firm’s risk parameters and improve your odds of passing the challenge.

Feel free to share how you size your trades or any tweaks you’ve added to your daily stop‑loss routine!
