Is Risk Management More Important Than Having a High Win Rate?

Khadar Farxaan

Many traders focus on finding strategies with a high win rate, but some traders believe risk management is more important.

A trader can lose several trades and still remain profitable if they manage risk properly.

Questions:

Would you choose a 70% win rate or excellent risk management?

How much do you risk per trade?

What is your opinion about this?

Excellent risk management is far more important than a high win rate. You can easily fail a challenge with an 80% win rate if a few bad trades blow past your daily loss limits. Solid position sizing protects your capital far better than chasing high-probability setups alone.

Most disciplined traders risk between 0.5% and 1% of their account per trade. This ensures a string of losses won't breach strict prop firm drawdown rules.
